Artists Designing Evolution to Afraka Designing Emergence

adé PROJECT came on the scene in 2018, at a time when the world was still largely unwilling to heal the wounds of the past and projecting the promise of the future on the same rusty chains that have kept us in bondage for generations. The idea was simple – engage people in the space of their creativity and make the sacred tools we ALL have to shape our future. Heal and deal. Even through being cast as the underdog, the unstable and those incapable of choosing a “real” job – the artist has always known the truth. Sharing our stories, reflecting on the present moment through various mediums and expressing from the heart has always been the most transformational thing we can do. And yet, for the Black community especially, the artists continued to be pushed to the bottom and to the margins of society. adé PROJECT sought to change that…armed with our mantra “Art is our RESPONSE” and a five point strategy to address inequity, oppression and cultural erasure with creativity…we did that. For case studies of our work on youth leadership, facilitating community action, standing in the gap to shift outdated government policies, catalyzing an increase in Black entrepreneurship, hosting community gatherings, curating art installations, art exhibits, art panels and immersive art experiences you can view our work under the Branches section above. For the methodology of change we employed to acquire and redistribute over $100,000 in grants, contracts, scholarship funds and rapid response support in just 3 years, you can review the Roots section above. All in all, we remained true to our mission. With the vision fully realized and our legacy rippling out for the next several generations, it was time for us to EVOLVE and crown ourselves community champions. Meet us as Afraka Designing Emergence as we take the work to the next level, focusing on building generational wealth, preparing the next generation of leaders and resting in the abundance that is our birthright by the sacrifice of our ancestors.

adé Manifesto.

From invisibility,

into our crowning – WE EMERGE.

We resist by choosing to exist. We stand for what we believe in and build spaces by us that will include us in the narrative of communities and the culture our people helped to build. We model the capacity to use ancient knowledge and wisdom from the Afraka Diaspora as changemaking + organizing tools, to guide facilitation, to reclaim our education, toward upward economic mobility and the preservation of our culture + heritage that we cannot let die. We walk out our lives with truth, balance, order, harmony, righteousness, morality, justice + clarity.

From displaced wandering,

into the truth of who we are – WE EMERGE.

What We Do

Creative Facilitation

We curate cultural performances, artist residencies and [virtual + in-person] community events that spark dialogue about liberation, belonging and how to continue to weave together our stories in the puzzle of our beautiful history. We use creative facilitation as a tool for navigating change, strategic planning, and resolving community conflicts and teach this tool to others seeking to form circles as our Afrakan ancestors once did. We engage students and professionals in creative inquiry projects that address community needs and hardship.

Storytelling

We collaborate with community-led, and community-supported news and media platforms that center the celebration of Black culture. We publish digital works that are a collection of  interviews, celebration of creative culture (i.e. culinary, visual, cinematic, musical and various other art forms) and the writings + stories of organizers, changemakers, communities, healers and students on the subject(s) of culture, heritage, preservation, truth, reconciliation + healing. We share our story and go about living our lives in accordance with our values, leading a purpose-driven life.

Entrepreneurship

In our work, we weave together the worlds of business, education, the arts + culture, social science/work, healing, civic engagement and social justice to address the deep complexity and interconnectedness of the issues we face. We contribute to economic mobility by creating jobs, facilitating contracts, negotiating partnerships, and securing capital that will land directly in the hands of those making the most impact for good around the Afraka Diaspora. We work cooperate closely with those seeking to cooperate with us and incubate, nurture, and support individuals, businesses, entrepreneurs and organizations that share our vision to restore balance to the planet.

Service

We honor the ancestors by acknowledging those that came before us and lost their lives in the fight for freedom, justice, and liberation. We honor the elders by seeking the treasure and wisdom of their lived experience and commit to continue weaving the fabric of our connections together when they no longer can. We honor the youth by designing programs that are experiential, hands-on, inclusive with a focus on afro-futurism, a celebration of the Black identity and self-efficacy in their capacity to design + shape their own lives. We honor the Motherland + the Earth through projects, ceremonies and initiatives that center beautification of space, recycling + reducing of waste through upcycled art or repurposing of materials, waterway cleanup (prioritizing rivers and oceans when necessary) and securing support for farmers, pollinators, healers and spiritual practitioners working on and with sacred sites across the Afraka Diaspora.

Training + Education

We advocate for our people and challenge inequity with tool kits for liberation and ways to share best practices. We provide support for strategic planning + change management by working directly with entrepreneurs, small businesses, tour operators, orgs and education hubs seeking a creative process of building or innovating their work. We serve as a resource connector for grants, opportunities, contracts, proposals, conferences, workshops, trainings, and scholarships that will advance professional and personal development for those working around the Afraka Diaspora.

“It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.”
